Tis a night for Trick or Treatin, and glowing evil pumpkins, Halloween part 3
Well it's finally here! The 31st of Oct which means Halloween is finally upon us! Many people on the other side of the world will have to wait for a few more hours for their celebrations. Meanwhile people in Kawasaki,Japan have already begun their festivities. Ah yes the world will spend the next day playing all sorts of pranks on people and kids getting their year's supply of candy. *Cue evil witch laughter*
My pumpkin's better than your pumpkin
Have a look at some of these theme-inspired pumpkins below. IT will surely please the child AND the adult in you (provided your a marvel or capcom fan)
and finally, here's video. Created by Paul Gale
Quick!I totally forgot about getting my kids a costume!
Has life's other priorities made you lose track of time? Does the message "daddy please remember to get me a costume for h'all o'ween" only slightly ring a bell? Will your child go costume-less for Halloween? Well fear not, here are a few quick (albeit somewhat dismal) last minute costume ideas. Because every child deserves their own costume for Halloween ;)
1)Owl-Girl
2)Human Rubik's Cube
3)Mini Knights (most adorable of all)
More last minute costume ideas can be found here.
This wraps up my 3-part series on Halloween. I hope you have a blast!

Phoenix Wright the Movie?!
Can it be true? Are the rumors real? Thankfully, its a big resounding "YES!!".
Here is the official trailer :Phoenix Wright Movie
Phoenix Wright the movie is called " Gyakuten Saiban ". (Note: The clip may be confusing because it was shown in an audience and there were loads of disembodied voices exclaiming loud gasps while watching the trailer. Don't worry, you'll be gasping along with them in no time). The character of Phoenix is played by Narimiya Hiroki (成宮 寛貴).
The movie is due for release in Japan theatres in early Feb 2012.
Japan's renowned filmmaker, Miike Takashi (三池 崇史) is the brains behind the project of Phoenix Wright the movie. Takashi-san has previously made other successful films such as the controversial manga adaptation of Ichi the Killer (Trailer provided at the bottom of this post) He has a major cult following in the US and that following is gradually growing with the actual DVD release of his work. Which means, it's awesome news for fans of Phoenix Wright (including yours truly) to learn that he is working on the movie.

Guises of Witches and Ghouls, Halloween part 2
Today's part will cover the origins and reasons for disguises during Halloween.
Not many people realize that the practice of children in disguises going from door-to-door asking for food or money (not so common these days) is a well known traditional Halloween custom and goes hand in hand with the spirit of Halloween. The earliest record of this particular practice was recorded in Scotland during the late 1890s. Yes folks, if you are reading this post, none of you would have been born yet at the time. It has been a heck of a long time since then and was first introduced into America during the early 1910s.
How does your party disguise or your kid's disguise look like? Have you decided to make the costume yourself or opted to buy one readily made at the costume store in the local mall? If your desperate for ideas, check out the video below for some ideas. They were voted for a reason you know? :)

Birth of Halloween, Halloween part 1
What's in a name?
The common name for Halloween is believed to have been derived from the longer pronounced word of "All-Hollows-Even". Just rolls off the tongue doesn't it? The name came from during the 16th and is a Scottish variant and was used to represent the eve of "All Hallows Day". Now,as people especially Christians might know, "All Hallows Even" is also "All Saints Day" where solemnity is observed. So how is it that Halloween got incorporated with the supernatural? Mainly with ghosts, witches and the like.
It isn't certain how that came about but all this writer knows is that a Halloween without some belief in witches and ghosts and of Frankenstein monsters is a dull Halloween!. I found this rather hilarious video by Scorpio Window who talks about the origins of Halloween.
The video is made to be humorous which it successfully does to a brilliant level and above all else, entertaining. Have a look for yourself and tell me what you think about the origins of Halloween. Does your culture believe in a different origin of the festival?

It's time for Halloween!
The celebration of scares is just around the corner and even though Malaysia does not celebrate this holiday nor is it recognized as one, that doesn't mean Malaysians ( or least for myself ) aren't feeling the festivities also! Over the next few days I will be constructing posts with Halloween as the main topic of discussion. The first post begins tomorrow
Are you excited to celebrate Halloween? What is the meaning of the holiday to you? Are you going out Trick or Treating or are you staying at home handing out candy to Trick or Treaters? No matter who (or what you are), everybody finds a piece of Halloween to enjoy.
I hope you have a fun one this year and before I sign off, is that your mom in the closet or is that the Bogeyman?

Free runners rule
If you are a free runner, the urban city's your playground. With risks involved as you can see from the video below. Count how many times you went " Oh Shi.." expecting something bad to happen to the runners (like a twisted ankle or a busted forehead) but doesn't. Those brave souls. I would sooner get a cardiac arrest from watching them perform their stunts.

Happy Deepavali 2011
The Festival of Lights is coming up tomorrow for us Malaysians so I thought I would make a post honoring the spirit of Deepavali ( as it is often referred to here), taking the time to remember why Indians celebrate the Festival and so forth.
In a nutshell
Deepavali when translated from Sanskrit literally means "row of lamps" . The festival celebrates the triumph of good over evil and in celebration, people light up oil lamps. Hence the significance of the "lamps" in Deepavali.
Deepavali is an official public holiday in many countries including Malaysia and Singapore. People take the time off to bask in the atmosphere of the festivities and Deepavali certainly is not off-limits to people who are not of the religion. Many Malaysians from all walks of life partake in the festivities which include preparing food together, and even praying together.
Huge celebrations
If you are a foreigner or a Malaysian local who has yet to experience the best of Deepavali's festive activities and atmosphere, it would be best to go to the Indian Temple located at Batu Caves, Selangor (click the link for great photos of the actual site).
For those interested to go there tomorrow, please click the location link at the end of this post. Google Maps will be opened up and let you know exactly where and how to get to the Batu Caves. I do suggest that you go early because there will be a lot of people there.
Finally,if you DO manage to get there, I'm sure it will be a trip worth taken and which you will not soon forget. Happy Deepavali to you!

How to connect my blog to Facebook and Twitter?
I had a rather difficult time trying to figure out how exactly to link my fresh new blog ( its already a day old!) yesterday. Needless to say my excitement to announce to the world that I'm now a father of my new site, (fine, blogger) died down a bit when what I thought should be a simple point-and-click process didn't quite turn out to be what I expected.
Anyway, here's the thing. If you want to link your blog to your Facebook or Twitter or any other social media site, you will need your blog's RSS Feed URL. I think I'll just assume that's the first time you've heard the term as I was when I stumbled upon it after searching around the web and skip the technical mumbo jumbo.
DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a marketer/representative/advocate for either TwitterFeed or NetworkedBlogs. This is merely the easiest tutorial I can make to help people link their blogs to social media sites. I am in no way profiting from this post.
So here's what I did to successfully link my blog to my Facebook and Twitter account.
1)You can get yourself started by creating an account ( it's free) with TwitterFeed .
I found many websites as well as applications on Facebook itself such as NetworkedBlogs which are useful in their own way but I would have to say TwitterFeed was the most beginner friendly. The best thing about it is that you are able to automatically link your favorite site to your blog. They support more than just Facebook or Twitter.
2) After that fill in your email address and preferred password.
3)This next step asks you for your blog's RSS Feed Url like I mentioned above however, TwitterFeed allows you to just enter your blog's full URL into the box and it will set up everything for you! You must enter a Feedname. I just entered the title of my blog, GitaOtaku. After all the blanks have been filled, just click on 'test feed" and you should get the "Feed Parsed" message at the bottom along with a green tick for your efforts.
4)Finally we get to the point for you to decide which of the social sites listed below that you want your blog to be linked to. Just pick each of the one that your interested it and click on "Authenticate Account".

Connecting to the outside world
So I've realized that a blog isn't an actual blog if nobody else but myself is reading it. I figured I should save myself hours of typing time (yet to be spent) and perhaps save quite a few posts from being unread by the masses.
Hmmm... So how do I get people to notice my blog? A light bulb flashes and I loudly exclaimed "Facebook and Twitter!".
At the time of writing this post, I was able to sift through the countless advice given by many websites.I must admit it wasn't as easy as I first expected it. I was looking forward to finding the option of "Click here to publish blog posts to your Facebook or Twitter account", but after much searching through Blogger.com's settings, I realized no such option was available. So off I went to ask a personal good friend of mine who is a global celebrity. His name is Mr.Google.
I have decided that I will do a write up of the steps I took to establish a feed of my blog to my Facebook and Twitter account so other newbie bloggers can have an easier time doing so. That will come in a separate post.

About me
My name is Aaron Ong. I'm currently an undergraduate student who lives in Penang, Malaysia. I major in International Business Management. Recently I discovered two passions in my life. I developed an inquisitive attitude toward the global world and thus I have a burning desire to travel across the globe. I spent the first two years of studies in Australia, particularly in Adelaide. It was the first time I had ventured out of Malaysia and it made me realize just how big the world really is. I was fascinated to meet so many different people from other parts of the globe. It made me feel just how insignificant I am and just how much more life can offer. That is why yearn to travel and to meet more people so that I can learn much more about myself, about other people and about the world.
The purpose of this blog is to document myself in life. Yes I am treating this like a diary but I am writing it for the reader who chances upon this blog and who might be able to find something in here that they can relate to.
